“Performance Is Her Craft. Storytelling Is Her Gift.”

Cara Flame believes true transformation and power comes from dynamic storytelling.

Cara’s Performance Background

Cara Flame’s relationship with performance began before she could remember—guided by a mother who taught her speech and drama. By age five she was reciting poetry in church; at twelve she sang solo on the Perth Concert Hall stage. After earning a Theatre Arts degree at Curtin University, she quickly took paid roles with Barking Gecko Theatre Company and founded her own touring theatre company, directing and producing a dozen shows nationally and internationally. Twice nominated for Young Australian Artist of the Year, Cara’s directing work explored Mike Leigh’s improvisational methods in community settings.

"Performance has been my whole life."

Cara’s Performance Background

A Voice For Change, Keynote Speaking.

Having spent her formative years honing oratory skills—and performing from age five—Cara became a public figure when she broke decades of silence about her time in the Esther Foundation. Initially speaking out anonymously to Crikey.com, she watched as her words ignited a movement: survivors revealed their truths, a parliamentary inquiry was launched, and the organization ceased to function. This act of courage transformed Cara into a sought-after voice on deconstructing controlling paradigms and the power of lived experience.

Trained in Speech & Drama through AMEB diplomas, a Bachelor of Theatre, and a Master’s in Professional Communication, she’s one of just seven state-appointed Speech & Drama examiners and a former film lecturer. A Registered Arts Therapist and doctoral candidate researching autoethnographic change, Cara combines performance craft with academic rigor to deliver talks that resonate on both intellectual and emotional levels.

“The spoken word is one of the most significant tools we have. A word can change someone’s life from being a suicidal mother with postnatal OCD to a powerful force for change.” Cara Flame
